Our approach
Rice bran and water. Nothing else.
Tended by hand, in wooden tubs.
The enzyme bath at osjo is 100% rice bran. We add no enzyme cultures or enzyme liquids; just rice bran and water, fermented by hand.
You lie face up in a wooden tub, and our staff cover your whole body in rice bran. Around your face too, if you like. You stay in the bran for about 15–20 minutes. Afterwards, rinse off the bran in the shower room, then rest in the lounge behind reception with something to drink.

Wooden tubs
We tend the rice bran in wooden tubs. In the row of tubs, the rice bran ferments naturally. The enzyme bath takes up to 4 guests at a time.

Homemade amazake before you go in
Before the bath, a shot glass of our homemade amazake — a sweet, non-alcoholic rice drink. Take a breath, then into the bran.

Homemade enzyme juice
In the lounge we serve homemade enzyme juice (¥400). After the enzyme bath, or during yomogi steam.

Asakusa for yomogi steam
For yomogi steam we use asakusa (a blend of herbs, hemp and charcoal), made from 17 kinds of herbs, hemp and charcoal. It is simmered in mineral water with chlorine and other substances removed.

Come empty-handed
Towels, hair dryers, makeup remover, shampoo and conditioner are all provided. Disposable paper underwear, shower caps and earplugs too.
Fifteen minutes in the bran.
Time to do nothing at all.
